CallConnect Road Show

Wed, 28 Aug 2019

CallConnect is a bookable bus service designed for rural areas where there is either no scheduled bus service, or it compliments existing services. To make sure that our Rutland residents are aware of the service we are bringing one of the buses along and we will be on hand to answer any questions and to help with initial registration so that people are set up and ready to use it if required.

CallConnect Roadshow coming to Cottesmore on Wednesday 28th August 2019 at 11.45 to 12.30. We shall be parked up at the Bus Stop opposite the Sun Inn at the time specified, giving residents the chance to see what the buses are like, and will bring along all the information needed to get registered, special offers and bus transport in general. Ramble - North & South Luffenham

Sun, 15 Sep 2019 10:00

This month's Ramble is once again a week later than the "standard" date – that makes it Sunday 15 September. The plan is to do a walk we have not done in a long time, covering the two Luffenhams – we'll pass through parts of both villages, but the route is actually a very rural one, with some fine countryside views along the way.

We will set out, at the usual time of 10.00, from outside The Fox pub in North Luffenham. As ever, if you need any further information (or would like a lift on the day), you are welcome to ring John Meara on 812350.

Knife Crime Information evening Friday 20 Sept

Knife Crime Information Evening

Rutland Police is staging a knife crime information evening on Friday (20 Sept).
The event is being organised by Oakham Police's PC Joe Lloyd, but will be led by Sgt Darren Richardson, Neighbourhood Team Sergeant for Rutland.
PC Lloyd told Oakham Nub News: "While we don't have a knife crime issue in Rutland, we do have knife crime.
"We are holding the information evening in support of Leicestershire Police's week of knife crime action as part of National Operation Sceptre.
"I'd like to see as many parents and carers, along with teenagers, as possible attend the event to better understand the consequences of knife crime.
"There will also be officers attending who have first-hand experience of dealing with knife crime."
The information evening is being held on Friday at The King Centre, Main Road, Barleythorpe, starting at 6pm until 7pm.
Leicestershire Police's knife crime action week was launched yesterday (Mon).
It is supported by the force's established #LivesNotKnives campaign and partnership work which aims to reduce knife crime by targeting those carrying weapons and disrupt the supply of knives available to use.
Superintendent Shane O'Neill, who leads the force's response to knife crime, said: "Tackling violent crime, including those who carry knives, is a force priority.
"This national week of action has long been planned but forms part of our LivesNotKnives work which seeks to collaborate with partners, including schools, councils, health and charitable organisations, as well as parents to deal with this issue.
"Young people need to know that they are more at risk of becoming a victim if they carry a knife.
"It's also important that people know where to get advice and support from if they want help to stop carrying a knife or have concerns about someone they know who has one.
"We are doing everything we can to catch offenders and deal with them appropriately.
"Ultimately, knife crime will not be tolerated on our streets."

Ramble - Ketton - CANCELLED due to rain and mud

Sun, 06 Oct 2019 10:00

October's Ramble is a circuit of a little over 3 miles that gives us the chance look at a quarry, and also to get close to
some interesting geology. There aren't any stiles on the route – just some fairly steady climbing in parts, and a couple of steepish descents. There is parking available outside the library in the centre of the village, and that's where the walk will start from – at the usual time of 10.00. As ever, if you need any further information (or would like a lift on the day), please ring John Meara on 812350.
